Resolve to Make a Difference/Bonding With “Betty” Over Homework

One-to-One Adult Literacy tutors make a real difference when they help adult learners achieve educational goals. Tutors are sometimes paired with adults who are attending LTC Manitowoc, giving these adult learners the added support they need to be successful. One of our tutors works with “Betty,” an English language learner who is working on her GED at LTC while also working on her English skills with her tutor. When Betty’s Civics class homework assignment was to observe and take notes at a Municipal Court hearing, her tutor went with her. Seeing civics in action with her tutor was a great learning experience for “Betty.”

Literacy has the power to changes lives. This year, why not resolve to make a difference by becoming a volunteer tutor with One-to-One Adult Literacy Partners? You will find a meaningful volunteer experience that makes a real difference in someone’s life!

Registration is now open for our January training for new volunteers. The training will take place on Saturday, January 19 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Manitowoc Public Library. The training is free and all materials will be provided; registration by January 16 is required to attend. To learn more, contact Jo Ann Dent, One-to-One Adult Literacy Partners, at jadent@manitowoc.org or 920-686-3026.
