Resources for Teachers

Teacher Cards
A Teacher Card allows educators to borrow certain items for instructional use from the Library for an extended loan period. Teachers, daycare providers, homeschoolers, and other adults who work with children in the Manitowoc-Calumet Library System are encouraged to apply for a Teacher Card. Register for your Teacher Card at the Circulation Desk.
Literacy Cards
A Literacy Card is a specialized borrower's card issued to patrons who are involved with literacy efforts in the Manitowoc area. This card is kept on file at the Library and allows exceptions to the normal loan policy. Individuals (tutors and their students) who work with literacy issues and live in Manitowoc County are eligible.
Teacher Collection
Teachers may select their own collections or request that Library staff prepare a collection of materials on the subject(s) of your choice. Materials include any items that may be borrowed on a Teacher Card. Collections may be no larger than 50 items. Requests for Teacher Collections can be phoned in, delivered in person, or emailed using the form below. Please make your request at least one week in advance. You will need to bring your own container when picking the collection up at the Circulation Desk. Collections not picked up within 1 week of requested pick up date will be returned to library shelves.

Vacation Packs
Manitowoc Public Library shares teachers' desire to help students succeed. By working together, we can enable students to have positive and productive library visits. It is helpful when you notify us in advance of assignments that require the use of the Public Library. This assignment alert by phone, fax, mail or email gives us a clear understanding of the assignment. We can then assemble and reserve appropriate materials for all your students to use in the Library, not just for the students who get to the Library first.

Library staff can prepare a special collection of library materials for your students on the subject of your choice. Reserve Collections may contain up to 50 items and are kept no longer than 3 weeks in a special area of the Library. A limit of 3 items from a Reserve Collection can be checked out for 3 days, or the collection may be non-circulating. Bibliographies on the subject(s) of your choice can also be prepared. Requests for these services should be made in person or by phone at least one week before they are needed.

If you bring your students to the Library for a tour and plan to let them check out materials, please allow additional time before or after the tour. Students must bring their library cards with them in order to check out library materials. If students do not have library cards, they need to obtain them prior to the tour. A parent or guardian, with current I.D., must assist students under 13 years of age in obtaining a library card.

Please schedule your Library visit at least one week in advance.
