Reading is one of the great joys of life for many adults, but it’s something that is beyond the reach of an adult who lacks basic literacy skills. Working one-on-one with a caring tutor makes a real difference, as it did for “Sam,” an adult learner in our program who had never read a book until last year. Now he and his tutor enjoy reading action novels together. (Please note: this learner’s name has been changed to respect his privacy.)
Literacy has the power to changes lives. This year, why not resolve to make a difference by becoming a volunteer tutor with One-to-One Adult Literacy Partners? You will find a meaningful volunteer experience that makes a real difference in someone’s life!
Registration is now open for our January training for new volunteers. The training will take place on Saturday, January 19 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Manitowoc Public Library. The training is free and all materials will be provided; registration by January 16 is required to attend. To learn more, contact Jo Ann Dent, One-to-One Adult Literacy Partners, at jadent@manitowoc.org or 920-686-3026.
