Sensory Backpacks

Sensory Backpacks

We now have sensory backpacks available at the Youth desk! These contain child-sized weighted vests, child-sized noise-reducing headphones, tactile books, and toys that can help your child with attention, focus, sensory stimulation, and calming. These are not just for children diagnosed with sensory needs. They can be used by any child in almost any setting.

Sensory Backpacks can be checked out at the Youth desk for use  in the library.

Social Story: This is My Library

The purpose of this book is to help pre-teach what the structure and routine of a library experience will be like. With this book, individuals will gain a visual familiarity of their own library so that they can feel comfortable during their visits, be able to use the services, and interact appropriately. This resource has been developed by Manitowoc Public Library as part of the Libraries and Autism: We’re Connected project.

Curbside Pickup

For your safety and convenience, curbside pickup will continue during all open library hours. We suggest that patrons call prior to arriving and upon arrival to help facilitate a smooth transition.

Please continue to place holds on materials ahead of time and ensure they’re available prior to pick up. Call 920-686-3010 to place holds by phone or alert staff when you would like to arrive to pick up available holds.

Homebound Delivery

Manitowoc Public Library provides materials for cardholders of any age that are unable to visit the Library due to an ongoing physical condition, illness, age or other qualifying condition that limits  mobility. We offer material selection, delivery, and pickup services. Staff carefully select materials to reflect your interests. Volunteers are assigned to each patron for pickup and delivery services to your home or residential facility.  In addition to delivery to individuals, we also provide services to centers and facilities.

Library Programming

Individuals requesting accommodation for disabilities should contact the Library's ADA Manager. Reasonable accommodations will be made as quickly as possible, often within a week.

accessiBe Widget

The accessiBe widget enables visitors to view the Library's website in an interface that’s specifically meant to accommodate needs related to vision impairments, cognitive disorders, epilepsy, and motor impairment.  To use the widget, click or touch the blue and white person symbol on the lower left side of the screen on a computer or smart device.  Users can choose a profile that enables them to interact with the website in a way that best meets their needs.
