The first Saturday in May is National Comic Book Day and “May the Fourth” is Star Wars Day. The stars have aligned and both events are happening on the same day! To celebrate everything from the world of Comic Books and Star Wars, Manitowoc Public Library is hosting “Comic Book Day Strikes Back!” It’s going to be a day full of fun activities inspired by these two fantastic fandoms.
On Saturday, May 4, from 9 AM-1 PM, Manitowoc Public Library will be offering a variety of activities, giving away comic books, and awarding neat prizes. This event is FREE and for all ages. You can even come dressed as your favorite Comic Book or Star Wars character!
ACTIVITIES:
Free Comic Book Giveaway:
Stop at the Comic Book Table and pick out a free comic book (while supplies last). They are a mix of circulated & donated items that we are giving away to you just for coming in. Pick one item from the various comic books, manga, and other comic-related materials (some items may not be suitable for all audiences). You can also enter to win raffle prizes!
501st Legion:
We are very excited that members of 501st Legion will be making an appearance at the Library! They will only be here from about 9:30-11 AM. Stop by to check out their fantastic costumes of our friends from a galaxy far, far away and take a picture with them at our photo-station.
Classic Comic Book Display:
Come see a display of classic comic books, including issues from the Golden and Silver Ages! Local comic book collector, Robert Kujawski, has generously loaned MPL some spectacular pieces of comic book history for public viewing. This display includes the first issue of the Star Wars Comic Book from 1977!
Scavenger Hunt:
Use the clues to decipher the Secret Code that’s hidden throughout the Library. If you can figure out the message, you could win a neat keychain or a small candy treat (while supplies last). All the keychains were made in our makerspace, the Idea Box.
Costume Contest:
Come dressed as your favorite Comic Book or Star Wars character. Take a picture at our photo-station to enter the Costume Ccontest. Pictures will be posted to our Facebook page where everyone can vote for their favorites via their reactions. A prize will go to the top vote getter!
Bookmark Art Contest:
Starting April 22, you can pick up a blank bookmark from the Library and enter our Bookmark Art Contest! Create something inspired by the world of Comic Books, Star Wars, or from your own imagination. Return your design to the library by Friday May 3 to enter. On May 4, you can vote for your favorites and look at the other out of this world designs, which will be on-display during the event. General:
We will also have a Button Making Station, Superhero Mask Making for kids, and a display with Star Wars Posters and Comic Book memorabilia.
