Are you searching for your next great listen? Have you heard about Manitowoc Public Library’s Playaways?
But, first you may ask what is a Playaway? A Playway is an electronic listening device that is no bigger than a deck of playing cards. Its small size is very handy as it can fit in your pocket while taking a walk, riding a bike or gardening in your yard. You can use a Playaway anywhere without need of an internet connection. Users need only provide one AAA battery and headphones, earbuds, or auxiliary speakers. If you prefer listening without a headset, the library has portable mini speakers available for checkout, too. Both Playaways and speakers are available for 3-week checkouts and Holds List pickup.
What titles spark your interest? Do you enjoy thrillers, fantasy, self-help, or historical nonfiction? On the other hand, do you like classic titles by authors like Louisa May Alcott, H.G. Wells or Bram Stoker? The adult collection consists of approximately 80 titles that cover many different genres. Are you still trying to checkout audio for Kristin Hannah’s latest title, The Women or Rebecca Yarro’s fantasy, Fourth Wing? Well, you are in luck! We have both available on Playaway and often with a short waiting list—if any wait at all. Playaways are a great way to supplement your holds on OverDrive/Libby and the next step up from audiobooks on CD.
So, while you are picking up a Playaway title for the kids in Youth Services, head downstairs and pick one up for yourself, as well! They can listen to Harry Potter and you can listen to a fun murder mystery such as, The Murders in Great Diddling or Mother-Daughter Murder Night during your annual road trip. Don’t forget your earbuds!
