Are you hungry for a good read? Do you feel a hankering for a sweet story to sink your teeth into? Then, join us at Manitowoc Public Library on Wednesday, April 10, from 5:30 to 7 PM in the Balkansky Community Room for our Book Tasting event! You can excite your appetite for a delicious read, sample a smorgasbord of scrumptious titles, and bring home a Wish List of tasty new tales.

So, what is a Book Tasting, exactly? A Book Tasting is a fun and exciting way to sample books from various genres and find something new to read. At a Book Tasting, you can get a “taste” of books as if sampling from a literary buffet. The Book Tasting also allows you to discover unfamiliar books you might not have found otherwise. And since we celebrate National Library Week in April, we at Manitowoc Public Library thought this would be a great way to observe the festivities and introduce our patrons to some new titles that we have to offer.

National Library Week (April 7-13, 2024) is a time to celebrate our libraries—and library workers’ contributions—and promote library use and support. The theme for National Library Week 2024 is “Ready, Set, Library,” emphasizing that libraries give us a Green Light to race into something truly special: a place to connect with others and experience different things. The Book Tasting is an event that embraces this spirit of adventure, allowing patrons to take a chance and try a nibble of a variety of lovely new literature.

For the Book Tasting on April 10, Manitowoc Public Library has prepared a menu of six books for each genre represented at the event. The menu at each themed table includes short descriptions that play with the concept of how food is typically described in a restaurant. Each menu includes 2 titles for the appetizers, 2 for the entrees, and 2 for the desserts. On the back of each menu, there is space for notes so that patrons can create a list of their favorite titles.

During the Book Tasting, patrons will have about 10 minutes at each table to read the menu and sample some of the featured literary “dishes.” The dinner bell will alert patrons when to switch tables. Participants are encouraged to share their impressions of the menu items with each other and ask questions of their “server” if they want more information about any of the books. At the end of the evening, you might even be able to check out your favorite book, just like a literary goody bag!

Registration for this event opened on Monday, March 25, at 5 PM and will close on April 8, 2024, at 5 PM. Space is limited, so register early to secure your spot. To register, go to www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/book-tasting.

Don’t miss out on this chance to discover new books! We hope to see you at the Library on April 10.
